Finding Treasures II / Just Smocking Around

I found this pattern a while back at a thrift store in Oakland. I knew nothing about smocking at the time but thought someday I'd like to try and make one of these:


Well, that someday was last week, and it was quite the challenge. I think it turned out "perfectly" imperfect. I had a hard time cutting the fabric absolutely rectangular(mostly because I was using fabric from a curtain) and I poked my left thumb about 15 times with a needle while doing the smocking. Yes, I do know about thimbles but I don't like wearing them, however I may reconsider. Anyway, smocking has got me very excited and I'm thinking up ways to incorporate it into some items for the shop.


And speaking of the shop I'm getting ready to make a major update around March 6. Thanks for being patient with me and also with my lack of entries here on the blog. I'm trying to figure out how to balance my time, as this venture is still pretty new to me. Here is a sneak preview of what I've been working on(flower pins, pouches and journals):
